Learning about Butterfly's

Last year our friends invited us over one day to release butterfly's they had watched grow from caterpillars. This year I ordered a kit so we too could watch these creatures grow and learn about their lifecycle. We picked up these teeny tiny caterpillar's, they were only about 1/4 inch long and told they are between 5- 7 days old.

We read one of our favourite stories- The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle.

The caterpillar's grew so quickly it was quite unbeleivable!

After we had them for 2 weeks they made their chrysalis, then we carefully placed them inside the cage for when they emerge as butterfly's.

It was a very exciting couple days when the butterfly's came out, we gave them some sliced oranges in their cage for them to eat.

We had a nice day and perfect weather for releasing some, everyone had to get a turn to hold them- even Daddy wanted in on the fun!
