Community Helpers

This term we are learning about community helpers- what their job includes, where they work, and what tools they may use.

We learned about fire fighters and talked about fire safety and came up with an emergency plan if there's ever fire in our house. Jaxon remembered his field trip to the fire hall with Preschool and talked about all the gear a fire fighter might wear. He coloured his own fire truck and added tools to it- axe, hose, ladder.

Jaxon learnt about construction workers, and with a Daddy who is always building things and working on projects he's had lots of experience using tools.

We learnt about mail carriers and their job of delivering mail to everyone's house. Jaxon drew a picture for his friend Danny, then he put it in the mailbox to get delivered.

We learnt about Dentists, and had perfect timing that we took a trip to the dentist for a check up and cleaning.

We also talked about foods that are good for your teeth or foods that are bad for your teeth. With 2 columns on the paper Jaxon sorted which one would be good or bad.

He also watched a couple videos on Brain Pop Jr. about dentists and teeth.

He learnt about Librarians, and we took a trip to the Library (which is already an outing we do every couple weeks). 

We also made a Library book tree. Every time we read a book from the library he put on a leaf with the title of the book!

We talked about doctors, unfortunately Zoey was very sick and we took her to the doctor. She had bronchoilitis and was prescribed 2 inhalers, but Jaxon got to see all the tools a doctor might use.

Jaxon has lots of fun learning about community helpers and the jobs they do!
